Why Harmony is Key to Successful Business Collaborations

What Christmas singing teaches us about building thriving relationships

Ever wondered what makes some business collaborations feel effortless and others difficult? My children’s annual Christmas Carol service reminded me of the secret to harmony in teamwork.

It was uplifting and inspiring. And it got me thinking…

Two smiling women work side by side on their laptops. Both doing their own thing but feeding off one another's energy

A great team is built on mutual understanding and individual gifts

It’s all about impact, isn’t it?

At the service there were hundreds of people packed into a majestic building. Standing room only. There was such a sense of unity and harmony. Everyone invested fully in a moment of peace, joy and connectedness. And singing that was heartfelt, moving and joyous.

This is soooo the feeling I get when I work on a project that excites me, with business owners who are equally excited: The magic of a great business collaboration.

A successful team creates something far greater than the sum of its parts:

  • Teamwork because everyone understands their role

  • Harmony brought by working towards a common goal

  • The power of bringing diverse talents together

Everyone brings their unique voice to the experience but is connected by a shared mission. And this attunement can bring extraordinary results.

“... harmony and understanding, Sympathy and trust abounding… “

This lyric from the song, Aquarius, captures it for me.

The power of music-making in this service was the blend of different voices, not their sameness.

In business it's the same thing; diversity of thought, skills, and perspectives is the secret to success.

  • A big-picture entrepreneur brings their vision to life with a meticulous operations expert

  • A creative thinker teams up with a results-driven strategist

  • A busy-brained female founder clarifies their messaging with the help of a wordsmith copywriter

The magic happens at the junction of everyone’s power, where skills and ideas grow. The collective achieves things that no single person could do alone.

But this requires trust

Working in a team we need to trust that everyone will:

  • pull their weight

  • deliver on commitments

  • work toward the shared mission.

Aligning their efforts and meeting deadlines to make sure the score of the collaboration flows harmoniously.

And just like making music it takes practice, patience, and ears open. When you hit the sweet spot, the result is nothing short of extraordinary and exhilarating.

Giving yourself the gift of a great team

So, when you’re looking for your dream team remember: The joy of working together, of being part of something greater than yourself, is a gift.

You revel in what you bring and enjoy the contributions that others make too. Let’s elevate ourselves and our businesses.
